My name is Alqama, and on August 4, 2026, I traveled from Lahore to Baku with my husband, Faisal, and our two young daughters, Fatima, who is 3 years old, and Zainab, who is just 1.5 years old. Traveling internationally with two small children can feel stressful, so choosing the right destination was very important for us.
We chose Baku, Azerbaijan, for several reasons. Why We Chose Baku for Our Family Trip
Choosing a destination was important for us because we were traveling with our two young daughters. We wanted a place that was easy to reach, comfortable for children, safe, and interesting for the whole family. After considering our options, we decided to visit Baku, Azerbaijan.
Why We Chose Azerbaijan
The first reason was the simple E-visa process. We did not want a complicated visa procedure, especially when traveling with young children. Read the complete Azerbaijan E-visa Process.
The second reason was the weather. We expected Baku to have more comfortable weather than Pakistan, especially for our children.
Another major reason was the direct flight from Lahore to Baku. Traveling with two small children can be difficult. We wanted to avoid a connecting flight and the extra stress of changing planes with our daughters.
Baku Appealed to Us
Baku immediately caught our attention because it offers a mix of beautiful architecture, family-friendly attractions, rich culture, and a relaxed atmosphere.
We liked the idea of seeing both sides of the city. Baku has modern buildings, wide boulevards, and a beautiful Caspian Sea waterfront. At the same time, it has historic places such as the Old City.
As a family, we wanted to explore without making our trip too hectic. Baku seemed to offer plenty of things to do with children. We were interested in places such as Baku Boulevard, the Caspian Sea waterfront, Old City, Flame Towers, parks, Zoo, shopping malls, and family attractions.
We also wanted to experience something different from our usual surroundings. The combination of Azerbaijani culture, local food, modern city life, and beautiful scenery made Baku an attractive choice for our family.
What We Expected Before Visiting Baku
Before our trip, we had already seen many photos and videos of Baku shared by influencers who had visited Azerbaijan. The beautiful streets, modern architecture, Old City, and Caspian Sea views caught our attention.
Those pictures made us curious about the city. Eventually, we decided that we wanted to experience Baku ourselves.
Before leaving Pakistan, we expected a relaxing family holiday with sightseeing, good food, beautiful views, and memorable moments with our daughters.
What We Discovered After Arriving in Baku
Our experience was even better in some ways than we expected.
The weather was one of the biggest surprises for us. It felt much more comfortable than the weather we were used to in Pakistan. The evenings were especially pleasant and cool. This made it much easier to go outside with our children and enjoy the city.
We also discovered that Baku has many places where children can have fun. Shopping malls often have children’s play areas, and we found plenty of family friendly activities during our trip.
One of our favorite experiences was visiting the Baku Zoo with our daughters. They really enjoyed seeing the animals, and it became a memorable family experience for us.
We also enjoyed walking around Mini-Venice in the evening. The atmosphere was peaceful, and it was a lovely place to walk with the children.
Another thing we noticed was the variety of food streets, shopping malls, parks, and family entertainment areas around the city. We never felt that we had to limit our trip because we were traveling with young children.
Overall, Baku turned out to be a destination where we could enjoy sightseeing, food, shopping, and family activities without making every day too tiring for our daughters. That was one of the things we appreciated most about our Lahore to Baku family trip.
Booking Our Lahore to Baku Flight
After deciding to visit Baku, our next step was to find a flight that would be comfortable for our family. Since we were traveling with two young children, the flight experience was especially important to us.

The direct flight was also much more convenient for us. We did not have to change planes or spend extra hours waiting at another airport with our daughters. For a family traveling with young children, we found this much easier and more comfortable.
How Much We Paid for Our Lahore to Baku Tickets
We booked return tickets from Lahore to Baku for our family of four. The ticket prices were different for the adults, child, and infant.

Our Experience at Lahore Airport
Our experience at Lahore Airport was very smooth. We were traveling with two young children, so we were a little concerned about the airport process. However, everything went much more easily than we expected.
Entering Lahore Airport
At the entrance gate, airport staff checked our passports and flight tickets. We had quite a lot of luggage, so we hired one of the porters available at the airport to help us carry our bags. We paid him PKR 2,000 for the service.
After entering the airport, our luggage went through the initial security check. The process was quick, and our bags were cleared in around five minutes.
Check-In at the AZAL Counter
After the security check, we went to the AZAL Airlines check-in counter.
The staff checked our:

- Flight tickets
- Azerbaijan visas
- Other travel details
Our luggage was checked in, and we received our boarding passes.
Everything went smoothly, and we did not face any problems during check-in.
Traveling With a Stroller
We also brought Zainab’s stroller with us. AZAL allows passengers traveling with young children to take a stroller, which we found very helpful.
We decided to wrap the stroller and check it in with our luggage because we did not need it inside the waiting area. Since we were traveling with two children, we felt it would be easier to look after them without carrying the stroller around.
We paid PKR 200 for wrapping the stroller.
Tips: If you are traveling with a baby or toddler, I strongly recommend bringing a stroller. If your child is very young and needs the stroller during the airport process, check with the airline about taking it closer to the aircraft.
Immigration at Lahore Airport
After checking in our luggage, we went to the immigration counter.
The FIA immigration officer asked us some simple questions, such as:
- Where are you traveling?
- Why are you visiting Azerbaijan?
- How many days will you stay?
- Where have you traveled before?
- Do you have a return ticket?
They also checked our Azerbaijan E-visas and travel documents.
We had everything ready, including our visas, return tickets, and accommodation details. Because our documents were complete, the immigration process was straightforward.
We completed immigration and the remaining security checks at around 12:50 AM.
Waiting for Our Flight
After immigration, we entered the waiting area.
We had some time before boarding, so we stopped at Gloria Jean’s Coffees and enjoyed a cup of coffee. About 1.5 hours passed very quickly.
Our daughters were also excited about the journey. They enjoyed exploring the airport and were in a good mood throughout the waiting time.
Because we were traveling with young children, we had packed everything they might need during the journey.
We carried:
- Milk
- Water bottles
- Bakery items and snacks
- A few of their favorite toys
- Four diapers
- Wet wipes
- One extra set of clothes
The extra clothes were especially important. With young children, you never know when you might need to change their clothes.
Our Overall Experience at Lahore Airport
Overall, our experience at Lahore Airport was very good and stress-free.
There was not much rush when we arrived. The security, check-in, immigration, and boarding processes were all completed quite quickly.
Traveling with two young children can make airport procedures feel difficult, but our experience was surprisingly easy. Having all our documents ready and packing everything our children needed helped us avoid unnecessary stress.
For families traveling from Lahore to Baku with young children, our biggest advice is to arrive prepared. Keep your passports, visas, tickets, accommodation details, children’s documents, and other important items easily accessible. Also, bring a stroller if you are traveling with a baby or toddler. It can make the airport journey much easier.
Our Lahore to Baku Flight Experience
Our Lahore to Baku flight experience with AZAL Airlines was one of the best parts of our trip. We were traveling with two young children, so comfort was very important to us. Thankfully, the journey was smooth and relaxing from boarding until landing.
Boarding the Flight
Before boarding, we downloaded the AZAL Airlines app so we could follow our flight information. Before boarding started, an announcement was made at the airport for Gate 4, where our AZAL flight was boarding.
The gate information also appeared in the airline’s app.
When boarding started, the process was very smooth. Staff checked our passports and boarding passes, and then we walked to the aircraft.
We did not face any long queues or confusion. Everything was well organized.
Takeoff from Lahore
After entering the aircraft, we placed our two cabin bags in the overhead compartments. One bag contained things we might need for the children, while the other had our important documents and travel items.
We arranged our seats so that Fatima had the window seat, I sat in the middle, and Faisal sat beside me. Zainab, our 1.5-year-old daughter, sat on my lap.
Once everyone was seated, the cabin crew made the safety announcement. We fastened our seat belts, and the crew also provided the appropriate infant safety belt for Zainab.
The flight took off almost exactly at the scheduled time shown on our ticket.
This was our daughters’ first flight, so we were wondering how they would react during takeoff. Surprisingly, everything went very smoothly. There was no major fear or crying. The girls were happy and excited to experience flying for the first time.
Traveling With Two Young Children
Traveling with two young children is not always easy. We knew this before the trip, so we prepared everything we thought we might need during the flight.
After takeoff, the girls watched their favorite cartoons on our phone. The aircraft did not have individual screens, so we had downloaded their favorite cartoons at home before leaving.
This was a good decision because we were not sure whether Wi-Fi or entertainment would be available on the plane.
The aircraft did have Wi-Fi, but unfortunately, the connection was very weak and did not work properly during our flight. For families traveling with children, having reliable Wi-Fi or an entertainment screen would make the journey even easier.
After around 30 minutes, we gave the girls some milk that we had brought with us. It was close to their usual sleeping time, so both children soon fell asleep.
That gave us some quiet time to relax during the flight.
Overall, traveling with our daughters was much easier than we expected. Keeping their favorite toys, milk, snacks, and downloaded cartoons with us made a big difference.
Food and Service on the Flight
After about an hour, the cabin crew started serving meals.
We had left home around 11 PM, so by this time we were tired and hungry. We were happy that the meal service started without much delay.
One thing we really liked about AZAL was that the meals were different for adults, children, and infants.
Our adult meal included:
- Boiled rice with meat and vegetables
- A sweet dish, including halwa
- Salad
- Water
- Cutlery
- Wet wipes
The children’s meal was different. Fatima received:
- Chicken nuggets
- French fries
- Ketchup
- Chocolate
- Juice
- Salad
- Cake
Fatima particularly enjoyed the nuggets and fries.
Zainab also received a separate infant meal. It included an apple and guava puree, similar to baby food. We liked this because it was suitable for a young child and felt like a healthy option.
After the meal, we also enjoyed some cold drinks. Faisal had tea, which he really enjoyed.
The food was tasty, and we were happy with the service. After we finished eating, the crew collected the trays and dishes promptly.
Flight Duration
Our Lahore to Baku flight took around 3 hours and 35 minutes.
After the meal service finished, the cabin crew freshened the aircraft and turned the lights down. We still had around 1.5 hours of the journey remaining, so we used the opportunity to get some sleep.
The flight time felt quite short, especially because we were able to rest for part of the journey.
After some time, we heard the announcement that we would soon be landing in Baku. The cabin lights came back on, and we woke the children.
The girls were still a little sleepy because they had not completed their normal sleep, but they quickly became excited when we told them we were about to land in Baku.
Fatima was especially excited. She had seen airplanes and landings in cartoons before, but this was her first real experience of landing in an airplane.
We fastened our seat belts and prepared for landing.
Landing in Baku
A few minutes later, the aircraft started its descent.
It was around sunrise, so we could see beautiful views outside the window. We enjoyed watching the scenery as the plane came closer to Baku.
The landing itself was very smooth. Within a few minutes, the aircraft touched down at Heydar Aliyev International Airport.
We were excited to finally arrive in Azerbaijan.
The aircraft stopped a little away from the terminal, so we left the plane and walked toward the waiting shuttle bus. A shuttle was already available to take passengers to the airport terminal.
We boarded the bus with our children and luggage, and within a short time, we reached the airport terminal.
Our Lahore to Baku flight experience was excellent overall. The direct flight saved us the stress of a connection, the cabin was comfortable, the crew provided separate meals for adults, children, and infants, and our daughters handled their first flight much better than we expected.
After arriving at Baku Airport, our next part of the journey began: immigration, baggage collection, and getting from the airport to our accommodation in Baku.
Arriving at Baku Airport
After our Lahore to Baku flight landed, we followed the signs toward the immigration area. The arrival process at Baku Airport was very smooth and straightforward.
We went upstairs to the immigration counters. The officer checked our passports, took our pictures, and completed the immigration process. There were no complicated questions or long procedures.
Collecting Our Luggage
After immigration, we went to the baggage collection area.
The flight number was displayed on the screens, showing us which baggage carousel to use. We went to the indicated counter and collected our luggage without any problem.
We placed all our bags on a trolley and headed toward the exit.
Leaving Baku Airport
The airport exit process was quick and comfortable. We did not face any difficulty with immigration or baggage collection.
Since we were traveling with two young children, we really appreciated how smooth the arrival process was. We were tired after the flight, so being able to collect our luggage quickly and leave the airport without unnecessary delays made our arrival in Baku much easier.
Overall, our first experience at Baku Airport was smooth, organized, and comfortable, and we were ready to begin our family trip in Baku.
How We Travelled From Baku Airport to the City
After leaving Baku Airport, we booked a Bolt to reach our accommodation in the city. Within about 4–5 minutes, our car arrived, and we started our journey toward central Baku.
Just a few minutes into the drive, we began seeing the city. Our first impression was very positive. The roads were wide, clean, and well maintained, and the buildings looked beautiful.
It was early morning, so the weather was another pleasant surprise. The cool morning breeze felt fresh and comfortable, especially after our overnight journey from Lahore. We enjoyed looking out of the car window and taking in our first views of Baku.
The city’s architecture also caught our attention. We could see a mix of historic buildings and modern architecture along the roads. Everything looked neat and well organized.
The drive from Baku Airport to our destination took around 15 minutes. It was a short and comfortable journey, and we enjoyed seeing Baku for the first time from the road.
After traveling through the city, we finally reached our destination and were ready to begin our Lahore to Baku family trip.
Where We Stayed in Baku
Before traveling to Baku, we booked an apartment through Airbnb. Since we were traveling with two young children, we preferred an apartment instead of a hotel.
Based on our experience, I would recommend an apartment to families traveling with young children. Having a separate living area, kitchen, and more space made our stay much easier and more comfortable.
Our Airbnb Apartment in Baku
Our apartment had everything we needed for a comfortable family stay:
- 1 bedroom
- 1 living room with a TV
- 1 bathroom
- 1 kitchen
- 1 dining area with a TV
The apartment was very clean, comfortable, and well furnished. We had already completed our booking before traveling, so we did not have to worry about finding accommodation after arriving in Baku.
Our host was also very cooperative and friendly. He explained everything we needed to know and guided us during check-in.
Our 9 AM Check-In
After arriving at our destination, we took our luggage from the car and checked into the apartment at around 9 AM.
We were tired after the overnight journey, so having an early check-in was very helpful. We freshened up and prepared a light breakfast ourselves.
There was also a small market below our building, which was very convenient. Faisal went there and bought some basic groceries, including:
- Eggs
- Bread
- Milk
- Apples
- Bananas
- Grapes
- Watermelon
- Water
Having a kitchen was especially useful because we were traveling with young children. We could prepare simple and fresh food for them instead of depending on restaurants or fast food for every meal.
After breakfast, we all went to sleep. We rested for around four hours. After waking up, we got ready and planned our first outing to Nizami Street.
Why We Preferred an Apartment With Children
For us, an apartment was much more practical than a hotel.
When traveling with young children, having only one hotel room can become difficult. Children need space to play and relax. Parents may also need a kitchen to prepare milk, breakfast, snacks, or healthy meals.
Having a kitchen allowed us to prepare food for our daughters whenever they needed it. We did not have to depend on restaurants for every meal.
For this reason, if you are planning a Baku family trip with young children, I would recommend considering an apartment through Airbnb.
Would We Stay There Again?
Yes, we would definitely stay there again.
The apartment was very comfortable and felt almost like our home away from home. Everything was clean and in good condition. The furniture was comfortable, the air conditioning worked well, and there was a TV in the living room and another screen in the dining area.
Our daughters were also very happy there. They had more space to move around and play, which made our stay easier.
The surroundings were another positive point. The view outside the apartment was beautiful, with plenty of greenery and a peaceful atmosphere.
However, there was one important problem that families should know about.
One Problem: The Apartment Was on the Fourth Floor
Our apartment was on the fourth floor, and unfortunately, there was no elevator.
This was difficult for us because we were traveling with two young children and a stroller. Going up and down four floors with children and luggage was tiring.
If you are traveling to Baku with children, always check whether the apartment building has an elevator before booking. This is especially important if you are bringing a stroller.
Apart from the lack of an elevator, everything else about our apartment was excellent.
We would happily stay there again if an elevator were available.

Our Experience Exploring Baku With Two Young Children
As a mother, my experience exploring Baku with two young children was much better than I expected. Before leaving Pakistan, we shortlisted many places in Baku and planned to visit them day by day.
Because our daughters are still very young, we did not want to make our trip too hectic. We focused on places where Fatima and Zainab could have fun, play, walk around, and enjoy new experiences.
During our stay, we visited;
- Nizami Street
- Old City
- Mini-Venice
- Baku Zoo
- Highland Park
- Flame Towers
- Heydar Aliyev Center
We also used Baku’s public transport and tried different Azerbaijani foods. The comfortable weather made sightseeing with children much easier. We usually explored one main place each day and gave the girls enough time to enjoy it.
Nizami Street
Our first major outing was Nizami Street.
It was a great place to visit with children. The streets were clean and pleasant to walk around. There were also many shops, restaurants, food stalls, and entertainment options.
Fatima and Zainab especially enjoyed the children’s activities. They played on the rides, enjoyed ice cream, and had fun looking at all the colorful things around them.
There were also many familiar food options. McDonald’s, KFC, ice cream shops, and other restaurants were easily available. This was helpful because children can sometimes be picky about food when traveling.
We also enjoyed some food at a Pakistani restaurant during our visit.
Old City and Mini-Venice
The next day, we explored Baku’s Old City.
We really enjoyed walking around the historic streets. The roads were clean and well maintained, and the old buildings gave the area a completely different atmosphere from the modern parts of Baku.
After exploring the Old City, we visited Mini-Venice.
This became one of our daughters’ favorite places in Baku.
The evening atmosphere was beautiful. The weather was cool, and a pleasant breeze made walking around very enjoyable. There were also ice cream stalls around the area, which Fatima and Zainab were very happy about.
The girls also enjoyed a small train ride. For them, it was not just sightseeing. It was a fun activity and a completely new experience.
Baku Zoo
We also visited Baku Zoo, and our daughters absolutely loved it.
Children naturally enjoy seeing animals, and Fatima and Zainab were excited throughout the visit. They enjoyed looking at the different animals and exploring the zoo.
It was also raining a little that day, which actually made the weather even cooler and more comfortable for us.
For us as parents, the zoo was a great choice because the children could enjoy themselves while we explored the place at a relaxed pace.
Highland Park
We also visited Highland Park with the girls.
The views from the park were beautiful, and it was a nice place to spend some time outdoors. The fresh air and open space made it comfortable for the children.
Traveling with young children means you cannot always spend hours sightseeing at one location. So we preferred to explore, take breaks, and move at a comfortable pace.
Flame Towers
We also visited the Flame Towers.
There was a funny little mistake during our first visit. We did not know exactly where to go, and we ended up at the basement area underneath the Flame Towers.
We realized that we had not reached the viewpoint we were looking for, so we left and came back another day.
Later, we enjoyed the Flame Towers from Mini-Venice in the evening. This was actually one of our favorite ways to see them.
Fatima especially loved the Flame Towers. Their lights attracted her attention, and she kept talking about them afterward.
For her, seeing the colorful towers in real life was something completely different from anything she had seen before.
Heydar Aliyev Center
The Heydar Aliyev Center was another memorable stop for our family.
We visited the museum inside, and our daughters enjoyed seeing something so different from their usual surroundings.
For Fatima and Zainab, it was a new experience. The modern architecture and museum environment gave them something interesting to explore.
As a mother, I enjoyed seeing their curiosity. They were excited to see new places and kept asking questions about what they were seeing.
Traveling Around Baku With Children
We also used Baku’s public transport, including buses, during our stay.
We found the transport comfortable and useful for getting around the city.
However, traveling with young children does require some planning.
Sometimes our sightseeing schedule affected the girls’ normal nap time. This was especially difficult for Zainab because she is still very young and needs regular sleep.
The girls also preferred walking most of the time. They enjoyed exploring places on their own, but after walking for a while, they naturally became tired.
That is why we always kept their stroller with us.
Whenever the girls became tired, we put them in the stroller and continued exploring. If you are traveling to Baku with young children, I strongly recommend taking a stroller with you. It can make sightseeing much easier.
Trying Azerbaijani Food With Our Children
Food was another enjoyable part of our trip.
We tried different local Azerbaijani foods, and we really enjoyed them. The food was tasty, and we found several options that our daughters also liked.
One thing we appreciated was that simple food options for children were easy to find. We did not have to struggle to find something that Fatima and Zainab would eat.
What Our Daughters Thought About Baku
The best part of our trip was seeing how happy our daughters were.
Even after returning home, they continued talking about Baku.
Fatima would remind me:
“Mama, we went to the zoo.”
She also remembered Mini-Venice, the train ride, and the Flame Towers. The Flame Towers were especially memorable for her because she loved their lights.
The girls also remembered the Heydar Aliyev Center and the different places we visited.
This showed us that the trip was not just enjoyable for us as parents. Baku created real memories for our children too.
My Experience as a Mother
Overall, my experience traveling around Baku with two young children was excellent.
We did have some small challenges, especially managing nap times and keeping the children comfortable while walking. But these were manageable with a little planning.
The comfortable weather, clean streets, family-friendly attractions, good public transport, food options, and many activities for children made Baku a very enjoyable destination for our family.

Getting Around Baku With Children
Getting around Baku with young children was much easier than I expected. Since I was traveling with my two daughters, Fatima and Zainab, I wanted transportation to be simple, comfortable, and stress-free.
During our trip, we used the Baku Metro, buses, and taxis, but we mostly traveled by metro and Bolt. Each option had its own advantages, and we chose our mode of transport depending on how tired we were and how the children felt.
Traveling by Metro With Children
The Baku Metro was one of our favorite ways to travel.
Our apartment was only about a 5-minute walk from 28 May Metro Station, so we used this station frequently. From there, we traveled to places such as Nizami and Sahil.
The metro was affordable, and our daughters really enjoyed traveling on the train. For them, using the metro was not just transportation. It was also a new and exciting experience.
Before our trip, we got a Baku transport card and added 20 AZN to it. This made traveling by metro and bus much easier because we could use the same card whenever we needed public transport.
For some of our journeys, the metro was much cheaper than taking a taxi. We could travel around the city without spending too much on transportation.
Using Bolt With Our Children
When we wanted a more comfortable journey or needed to travel farther, we usually preferred Bolt.
For example, we used Bolt to visit the Heydar Aliyev Center. We also used it while returning from Mini-Venice on one of our days.
A Bolt ride usually cost us around 5–6 AZN, depending on the distance. This was more expensive than public transport, but it was much easier when we were tired or when the children needed more comfort.
Our approach was simple:
If the children were fresh and happy, we used the metro. If everyone was tired, we booked a Bolt.
This helped us travel around Baku without putting too much pressure on ourselves or the children.
Traveling by Bus
We also used Baku’s buses a couple of times.
The buses we used were clean, comfortable, and air-conditioned. Overall, we were impressed with the public transport system in Baku.
However, because we were traveling with two young children, we always checked the route on Google Maps before leaving. This helped us understand which metro station, bus, or route would be easiest.
Planning the route in advance made our journeys much more relaxed.
Always Keep the Stroller With You
One of the most useful things we had during our trip was our children’s stroller.
Our daughters loved walking around Baku, but after spending a few hours exploring, they naturally became tired. Whenever they needed a rest, we put them in the stroller.
If you are traveling to Baku with a baby or toddler, I strongly recommend taking a stroller. It can make a big difference, especially when you are walking around the city for several hours.
Walking Around Baku
We also loved exploring Baku on foot.
Walking around the city was one of our favorite experiences. The streets were clean, the architecture was beautiful, and there were many interesting places to stop along the way.
Baku Boulevard was particularly enjoyable in the evening.
Walking beside the Caspian Sea while enjoying the cool evening breeze was very relaxing. There were also places to eat, shops, and different activities along the waterfront.
Of course, our daughters’ favorite part was finding ice cream. Fatima and Zainab loved having ice cream while walking along the boulevard.
There were also plenty of interesting things to see and places to stop, so the evening never felt boring.
Our Tip for Families Traveling Around Baku
With two young children, we learned that you do not need to use the same type of transport every day.
We used the metro, buses, Bolt, and walking depending on the situation.
Our best approach was to check the route before leaving, keep the stroller with us, and choose the easiest option based on the children’s energy levels.
For short and affordable journeys, we preferred the metro. For longer journeys or when we were tired, Bolt was more convenient. And for places like Baku Boulevard, we simply enjoyed walking.
Overall, getting around Baku with our two daughters was comfortable, affordable, and much easier than we expected.
What We Ate in Baku
Food was an important part of our Baku family trip. We wanted to try different foods and also make sure that Fatima and Zainab had plenty of options they could enjoy.
As Pakistanis, we also wanted to try some Pakistani food in Baku. We were happy to find several Pakistani restaurants in the city. We had meals there a few times when we wanted familiar desi food.
At the same time, we did not want to eat only Pakistani food. We tried Azerbaijani food, fast food, and different restaurants during our stay.
Pakistani Food in Baku
Finding Pakistani food in Baku was not difficult. There are several Pakistani restaurants, although the prices are generally higher than in Pakistan.
Sometimes, we wanted the taste of home, so we visited Pakistani restaurants and enjoyed desi food.
Since we were traveling with children, we usually chose restaurants where both we and the girls could find something they liked.
Fast Food: KFC and McDonald’s
We also ate at KFC and McDonald’s during our trip.
The prices were reasonable compared with some other restaurants. They were not extremely expensive, and they were convenient when we wanted something quick for the children.
Fatima especially likes foods such as fries and nuggets, so these options were easy for her to enjoy.
Our approach was simple. Sometimes we ate desi food, sometimes Azerbaijani food, and sometimes fast food. This way, everyone could enjoy the meals.
Trying Azerbaijani Food
We also wanted to experience the local food, so we tried different Azerbaijani dishes.
The local food was delicious, and we enjoyed trying something different from what we normally eat in Pakistan.
We especially looked for food that our daughters could also eat. Finding suitable food for them was not as difficult as we expected.
Lavash: My Favorite Food in Baku
One food that I really loved in Baku was lavash.
I ate lavash around four or five times during our trip. It reminded me of a Pakistani shawarma, but it had its own taste and style.
Fatima also really liked it, which made it even better for us because we could all enjoy it together.
A lavash cost us around 3 AZN, which I found quite affordable.
Honestly, I still miss the lavash from Baku. If I visit Azerbaijan again, trying lavash will definitely be on my list.
Breakfast at Our Apartment
Because we had an apartment with a kitchen, we usually prepared a simple breakfast ourselves.
We made things like:
- Tea
- Bread
- Omelets
Having breakfast at the apartment was convenient, especially with two young children. We did not have to get everyone ready and go outside first thing in the morning.
We usually had our dinners outside, which gave us a chance to explore different restaurants and try new food.
Coffee and Drinks
We also enjoyed coffee during our trip.
We visited Gloria Jean’s Coffees and tried both hot and cold coffee. It was nice to sit down and relax after spending time exploring the city.
Papa John’s: Not Our Favorite
We also tried Papa John’s in Baku, but honestly, it was not my favorite.
Compared with the Papa John’s we have had in Pakistan, I did not enjoy it as much. I also found it relatively expensive.
So this was one of the foods I would probably skip on our next visit.
Eating With Young Children in Baku
When traveling with young children, our priority was always to choose food that both Fatima and Zainab could enjoy.
We did not want every meal to become difficult. So we mixed different types of food throughout the trip.
Sometimes we had Pakistani food. Sometimes we tried Azerbaijani dishes. Other times, we chose something simple like fries, nuggets, or other familiar foods for the children.
Overall, we had a very good food experience in Baku. We found plenty of choices, the girls enjoyed many of the meals, and we were able to try both local Azerbaijani food and familiar Pakistani and international food.
But if you ask me which food I would have again without thinking twice, my answer is simple: lavash.
What Surprised Us About Baku
There were several things that surprised us after arriving in Baku.
The first was the weather. We found the weather much more comfortable than what we were used to in Pakistan. The evenings were especially pleasant, with a cool breeze that made it enjoyable to walk around with our children.
The second surprise was how many family-friendly activities we found throughout the city.
We found children’s play areas in shopping malls, activities around popular attractions, parks, food streets, and plenty of places where Fatima and Zainab could enjoy themselves.
We also loved the combination of modern and historic Baku. One moment we were walking through historic streets in the Old City, and another moment we were surrounded by modern buildings and wide boulevards.
The city was also very clean and well maintained in the areas we visited.
Another thing we appreciated was the variety of transportation. The metro and buses were affordable, while Bolt gave us an easier option when we were tired or traveling with the children.
Most importantly, we discovered that Baku was much easier to enjoy with young children than we had expected.
Things We Would Do Differently Next Time
Even though we had a wonderful trip, there are a few things we would do differently if we visited Baku again.
We Would Choose an Apartment With an Elevator
Our apartment was on the fourth floor without an elevator.
This was probably the biggest inconvenience for us. Carrying children and using a stroller on the stairs was tiring.
Next time, an elevator would be one of our first requirements when choosing accommodation.
We Would Plan Around the Children’s Nap Times
We planned one main place to visit each day, which worked well. However, sometimes our sightseeing schedule affected the children’s normal nap times.
With a 1.5-year-old, this can make the child tired and uncomfortable.
Next time, we would leave even more flexibility between activities.
We Would Keep More Time for Relaxing
There were many places we wanted to see, but traveling with children taught us not to rush.
Sometimes simply walking along Baku Boulevard, having ice cream, and enjoying the evening was more enjoyable than trying to visit another attraction.
We Would Continue Using a Stroller
Taking our stroller was one of the best decisions we made.
The girls loved walking, but when they became tired, the stroller gave them a comfortable place to rest.
For families with toddlers, I would definitely recommend taking one.
Is Lahore to Baku Worth It for Pakistani Families?
Based on our experience, yes, we believe Lahore to Baku is worth it for Pakistani families.
Our trip was comfortable, enjoyable, and full of new experiences.
The direct flight from Lahore made the journey much easier. The weather was comfortable for our children, and Baku had plenty of places where the whole family could enjoy themselves.
We also found Pakistani food, international restaurants, shopping malls, children’s activities, public transportation, and many attractions.
Of course, traveling with young children always requires extra planning. You cannot follow the same schedule as a solo traveler.
But if you plan your days around your children, take regular breaks, keep a stroller with you, and avoid trying to see everything in one day, Baku can be a very enjoyable family destination.
As a mother, I would happily visit Baku with my family again.

Make sure your visa and travel documents are ready before your flight.

Book Your Flight Carefully
If you are traveling with young children, consider the convenience of a direct Lahore to Baku flight instead of choosing a connecting flight only because it is cheaper.
Choose Family-Friendly Accommodation
If you are traveling with children, check:
- Elevator
- Kitchen
- Washing machine
- Air conditioning
- Bedroom arrangement
- Nearby supermarket
- Location
- Public transport

A stroller can make sightseeing much easier when your children become tired.
Plan One Main Activity Per Day
Don’t make your itinerary too crowded.
Children need time to eat, sleep, play, and rest.
Carry Children’s Essentials
We always kept milk, water, snacks, diapers, wipes, extra clothes, and a few favorite toys with us.
Check Your Transport Route Before Leaving
We usually checked the route before leaving our apartment. This helped us decide whether metro, bus, Bolt, or walking would be easiest.
Keep Some Cash and a Card
Having more than one payment option is useful while traveling.
Don’t Forget to Enjoy the Journey
You don’t need to visit every attraction.
Sometimes the best family memories come from simple things, such as walking together, having ice cream, watching the city lights, or letting your children play.
Final Thoughts on Our Lahore to Baku Family Trip
Our Lahore to Baku family trip was an experience we will remember for a long time.
We traveled with our two young daughters, and although traveling with small children requires more planning, the trip was much easier and more enjoyable than we expected.
We experienced the journey from Lahore Airport to Baku, stayed in an Airbnb apartment, used public transportation and Bolt, tried Azerbaijani and international food, and explored many beautiful places around the city.
But the best part was seeing Baku through our daughters’ eyes.
Fatima still remembers the Flame Towers, Baku Zoo, Mini-Venice, and the places we visited. Even after coming home, she talks about the things she saw and asks about our trip.
For me, that is what made the journey special.
As a mother, I would definitely recommend Baku to Pakistani families, especially those who want to experience a different culture, beautiful architecture, good food, and a family-friendly city.
Our journey started in Lahore, but the memories we made in Baku will stay with our family for a long time.
